The 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler and longtime friend of The BeatiDudes, Bishop Greg Kelly, joined the BeatiDudes just weeks before his installation to share his gratitude, joy, and excitement. His focus included a message of timeless wisdom to always find Christ and keep our eyes on Him. Bishop Greg Kelly is a native of Iowa and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1976, he arrived in Dallas. He studied for the priesthood in Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas in Irving and was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. He served as parochial vicar at All Saints in Dallas, Chaplain at the University of Dallas in Irving, and pastor at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in McKinney. He was ordained as auxiliary bishop of Dallas on February 11, 2016, and resided at Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving. In December 2024, Bishop Greg Kelly received word that Pope Francis wanted him to be the Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler, only 100 miles East of Dallas. When he received this news, he responded, “If the Holy Father wants me to do this, then that’s what I’ll do.” Bishop Kelly was installed as the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Tyler on February 24th, 2025, the 30th anniversary of the diocese's inauguration. He calls St. Joseph a &quot;martyr of purity&quot;—married to the most beautiful woman ever, yet living a life of total sacrifice, not possession. That’s strength, guys, not weakness. Then there’s his suffering—scrambling for a home for Mary, feeling outmatched by his holy family, yet never quitting. Sound familiar? We’ve all felt like failures as dads, husbands, or just men trying to keep it together. Joseph shows us purity isn’t just dodging sin—it’s honoring beauty—and suffering’s a forge, not a grave.Your challenge: Pick Your Fight. Two options—purity or perseverance. For purity, guard your heart today—delete social media apps (Instagram, Twitter, whatever’s got you scrolling), pray to St. Joseph when temptation hits, and ditch the smartphone noise. One of the winningest coaches in high school baseball, having coached for ten years at Tampa Catholic High School where he posted an amazing won-lost record of 329-39. His teams won four state championships and a national championship. He went on to coach at the University of Tampa and also scouted for Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals. Last year he was No. 26 on a list of the top 50 coaches in Tampa Bay sports history and he has been inducted into four Halls of Fame. He has his own foundation, which is dedicated to teaching young children life skills through sports.
