This week John and Victor continue their Lenten Series on the seven deadly sins and how they impede us from being able to "return to God with our whole hearts" ( Joel 2:12). The sin of the week is Anger. Many of us struggle almost daily with anger. Sometimes our anger is just and sometimes it is unjust. So how do you know the difference and if your anger is actually a sin? If your anger is festering and is bad for you then how do you rid yourself of it? Listen into this week’s episode as John and Victor seek to find the answers to dealing with anger in a healthy way and discuss the methods in which we can utilize charity and forgiveness as a remedy for unjust anger.

Gratitude goes a Long Way

Christianity means that we belong to Christ as members of His body and that means that we extend his mission through our own body, our own space, and time.  What is the mission of Christ.  One of the reasons He says He came to this world was to seek and to save what is lost.  If we are to be faithful to our mission we need to do the same.

Today we’re talking about courage. When I think of courage, I recall the story of David and Goliath where the shepherd boy slays the cruel giant. When we surrender to God, we gain strength to conquer our personal Goliaths, whether it’s work stress, addiction issues, marital struggles, or greed. From Biblical times to today, Philippians 4:13 holds true: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

- Once we let go of control and surrender to God, we find courage, peace, and joy.

Consequently those senses chiefly regard the beautiful, which are the most cognitive, viz., sight and hearing, as ministering to reason; for we speak of beautiful sights and beautiful sounds. But in reference to the other objects of the other senses, we do not use the expression beautiful, for we do not speak of beautiful tastes, and beautiful odours. Thus it is evident that beauty adds to goodness a relation to the cognitive faculty: so that good means that which simply pleases the appetite; while the beautiful is something pleasant to apprehend.”

“As stated above (A. 1), good is the cause of love, as being its object. But good is not the object of the appetite, except as apprehended. For this reason the Philosopher (Ethic. ix. 5, 12) says that bodily sight is the beginning of sensitive love: and in like manner the contemplation of spiritual beauty or goodness is the beginning of spiritual love. Accordingly knowledge is the cause of love for the same reason as good is, which can be loved only if known.”

“Likeness, properly speaking, is a cause of love . . . One kind of likeness arises from each thing having the same quality actually: for example, two things possessing the quality of whiteness are said to be alike . . . [this] kind of likeness causes love of friendship or well-wishing. For the very fact that two men are alike, having, as it were, one form, makes them to be, in a manner, one in that form: thus two men are one thing in the species of humanity, and two white men are one thing in whiteness. Hence the affections of one tend to the other, as being one with him; and he wishes good to him as to himself.”
