This week John and Victor continue their Lenten Series on the seven deadly sins and how they impede us from being able to "return to God with our whole hearts" ( Joel 2:12). The sin of the week is Anger. Many of us struggle almost daily with anger. Sometimes our anger is just and sometimes it is unjust. So how do you know the difference and if your anger is actually a sin? If your anger is festering and is bad for you then how do you rid yourself of it? Listen into this week’s episode as John and Victor seek to find the answers to dealing with anger in a healthy way and discuss the methods in which we can utilize charity and forgiveness as a remedy for unjust anger.

Gratitude goes a Long Way

Christianity means that we belong to Christ as members of His body and that means that we extend his mission through our own body, our own space, and time.  What is the mission of Christ.  One of the reasons He says He came to this world was to seek and to save what is lost.  If we are to be faithful to our mission we need to do the same.

Today we’re talking about courage. When I think of courage, I recall the story of David and Goliath where the shepherd boy slays the cruel giant. When we surrender to God, we gain strength to conquer our personal Goliaths, whether it’s work stress, addiction issues, marital struggles, or greed. From Biblical times to today, Philippians 4:13 holds true: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

- Once we let go of control and surrender to God, we find courage, peace, and joy.

But is there anything beyond these forms of happiness, a form of happiness which could be more pervasive, enduring, deep?In this episode you will learn that ...■ There are four major kinds of desire: the desire for sensual pleasure, the desire to get ahead over others, the desire to help others, and the desire for the transcendent.■ When our desires are satisfied, we feel corresponding levels of happiness.■ Sensual pleasure is fleeting, and a focus only on ego-comparative desires traps us in a comparison game.■ The human capacity for empathy and conscience forms the basis for contributive-empathetic desires and the happiness we feel when we make a positive difference to someone or something beyond ourselves.■ Even if we live a completely contributive-empathetic life, we will still experience a desire for the transcendental.■ Our four fundamental desires exist in us, whether we acknowledge them or not. Episode 16: The Four Kinds of Desire & Happiness

What do typhoon evacuations, koala selfies, and second breakfast in Hobbiton have in common? They’ve all been part of Deacon Bob’s adventurous month. 
After a few weeks apart, Father Dave and Deacon Bob are back, swapping globe-trotting tales, ministry moments, and a surprisingly full slate of sports updates. Bob’s recent trip took him from the typhoon-swept Philippines to Singapore, Perth, Sydney, and a bucket-list stop in New Zealand’s Hobbiton (yes, complete with hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, and second breakfast). 
Along the way, he preached to 90 youth leaders just hours after a typhoon hit, met a koala, saw kangaroos, and even met a listener named Rain who drove five hours just to hear him speak. There were plenty of memorable meals, from perfect pancakes to less-than-crispy bacon. 
Meanwhile, Father Dave stayed stateside, baptizing great-nieces (one walked to her own baptism), speaking at the Knights of Columbus Conference, and making a moving visit to the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City. He shares Rother’s remarkable story—from failing Latin in seminary, to obeying his bishop’s call to return to Guatemala, to his martyrdom in 1981—and the beauty of a shrine built right in the heart of the city it serves. 
Sports fans get plenty too: the debut of MLB’s first female umpire Jen Pawol (including her Hall of Fame–bound first pitch), Tom Brady’s towering new statue, and even a trivia challenge about the University of Michigan making draft history. 
Naturally, there are detours, including CGI vs. AI, bad sports statues, and ministry moments that transcended cultural boundaries. But through it all, the heart stays the same: joyfully sharing the Gospel, wherever God sends you (even if it’s to a sheep paddock in New Zealand).

He started into sports later in life, with basketball being his primary sport, including having attended a basketball training academy where he learned from NBA Skills Trainer Drew Hanlen.  He also worked out with former NBA player and three-time dunk champion Nate Robinson.  In addition, he played ball hockey, including winning four championships, and he competed in touch football leagues.  Over the last few years, he, "made the conscious decision to serve the church while incorporating lessons learned from sports to help my clients."  He is based in western Canada and is a state officer for the Knights of Columbus BC/Yukon State Council, and six months ago was invested as a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher in the Vancouver Lieutenancy.  On the professional side, he serves as a Catholic Life Coach for Freedom Coaching.  (LISTEN FOR THE POWERFUL TESTIMONY HE SHARES ABOUT HIS EYESIGHT AND A GOSPEL PASSAGE HE HEARD AT MASS!)

On the sports side, he played football in high school and college, including in the Glenwood Football League and training camp with the New York Jets’ farm team. During his first two years he became the best table tennis player in college. He is the author of a novel called, "A Man Like You and Me: A Supernatural Adventure Story," whose purpose, he says, is to increase faith in God in the reader, and is about supernatural events that started in his life in 1982.

Unplanned: Interview with Doug Johnson

Faith-wise, she tells a story here of having a reversion to the faith with her husband after a significant life event. Sports-wise, she worked for college football's Fiesta Bowl for two years, the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes for eight years, and at the Central Hockey league for seven years. As a student-athlete she had played both softball and volleyball, and, present day, she still participates in a couple sports recreationally. She is the Executive Director of the Arizona chapter of HopeKids, which provides ongoing events, activities and a powerful, unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.
