He is in his second season as an assistant coach for women's swimming and diving at the University of Kansas.  Prior to joining the Jayhawks staff, he was the head coach at the University of Mary, and before that he had been an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico.  Prior to moving into the college coaching ranks, he was the head coach of Reno Aquatic Club from 2018-21.  As a student-athlete he graduated from and swam at the University of Iowa, where he was named the team captain for the 2008-09 season.  He also received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and the Iowa Swimming Leadership Award in 2009.  He has a compelling story about his reversion back to the Catholic faith.

People turn to God for all kinds of reasons. We usually turn to God when we are in need. God wants us to go to Him when we are in need, but God also wants more from us. Our prayer drives our relationship with God. God is not some magical genie that is only there to grant us our wish, God is our Father. 

As our Father, God desires a relationship with you. Take time this week to consider your prayer life and your relationship with God. Are you making time in your prayer life to be with God, or are you only praying to get something from God? Find time this week to dwell with God. 

#36 Why Do You Pray?

First, whatever a thing has besides its essence must be caused either by the constituent principles of that essence (like a property that necessarily accompanies the species--as the faculty of laughing is proper to a man--and is caused by the constituent principles of the species), or by some exterior agent--as heat is caused in water by fire. Therefore, if the existence of a thing differs from its essence, this existence must be caused either by some exterior agent or by its essential principles. Now it is impossible for a thing's existence to be caused by its essential constituent principles, for nothing can be the sufficient cause of its own existence, if its existence is caused. Therefore that thing, whose existence differs from its essence, must have its existence caused by another. But this cannot be true of God; because we call God the first efficient cause. Therefore it is impossible that in God His existence should differ from His essence. Secondly, existence is that which makes every form or nature actual; for goodness and humanity are spoken of as actual, only because they are spoken of as existing. Therefore existence must be compared to essence, if the latter is a distinct reality, as actuality to potentiality. Therefore, since in God there is no potentiality, as shown above (Article 1), it follows that in Him essence does not differ from existence. Therefore His essence is His existence. Thirdly, because, just as that which has fire, but is not itself fire, is on fire by participation; so that which has existence but is not existence, is a being by participation. But God is His own essence, as shown above (Article 3) if, therefore, He is not His own existence He will be not essential, but participated being. 222: Understanding Augustine w/ Chad Engelland

She just retired a year-and-a-half ago after having been a pro soccer player, although she has now started a new semi-pro women's indoor soccer team. Her pro playing career had seen her with a team in Turkey, which was preceded by playing for a team in Finland. Before that she played for two different teams here in the States in the National Women's Soccer League, and before that played for a team in Colombia that became champions of the first year *of* the women's pro soccer league in that country. That came one year after having played in Sweden. As a student-athlete she had played Division I women's soccer at the University of Louisville after having been her high school's all-time leading scorer.

He has written a book on coaching youth sports, which just came out at the start of this month and is titled, "Beyond the Skills and Drills: The Keys to Successfully Coaching Youth Sports." He has been involved with both high school and youth sports for 47 years. When teenagers were revoked from the adults category, there were isolated into their own classification. Not grouped with adults meant they were able in many ways to continue the way of life they knew for their whole existence but with more bodily maturity too.
Here are a few points of discussion:

 	<li>2 age categories for all of time: Adults and Children</li>
 	<li>Culture of the 1960's and 1970's</li>
 	<li>Youth culture over adult culture</li>
 	<li>God and the faith are "ever ancient and ever new" not forever young</li>
 	<li>What are the effects of this in youth ministry?</li>
 	<li>Maturity is restrained and unfree, bound to God and the crosses He sends and the people He binds us to. True freedom is not youthful unattachment, but the loss of the types of freedoms the world pursues</li>

Consequently, because Christ humbled Himself even to the death of the Cross, from love and obedience to God, it behooved Him to be uplifted by God to a glorious resurrection; hence it is said in His Person (Psalm 138:2): "Thou hast known," i.e. approved, "my sitting down," i.e. My humiliation and Passion, "and my rising up," i.e. My glorification in the resurrection; as the gloss expounds. Secondly, for our instruction in the faith, since our belief in Christ's Godhead is confirmed by His rising again, because, according to 2 Corinthians 13:4, "although He was crucified through weakness, yet He liveth by the power of God." And therefore it is written (1 Corinthians 15:14): "If Christ be not risen again, then is our preaching vain, and our [Vulgate: 'your'] faith is also vain": and (Psalm 29:10): "What profit is there in my blood?" that is, in the shedding of My blood, "while I go down," as by various degrees of evils, "into corruption?" As though He were to answer: "None. 'For if I do not at once rise again but My body be corrupted, I shall preach to no one, I shall gain no one,'" as the gloss expounds. Thirdly, for the raising of our hope, since through seeing Christ, who is our head, rise again, we hope that we likewise shall rise again. Hence it is written (1 Corinthians 15:12): "Now if Christ be preached that He rose from the dead, how do some among you say, that there is no resurrection of the dead?" And (Job 19:25-27): "I know," that is with certainty of faith, "that my Redeemer," i.e. Christ, "liveth," having risen from the dead; "and" therefore "in the last day I shall rise out of the earth . . . this my hope is laid up in my bosom." Fourthly, to set in order the lives of the faithful: according to Romans 6:4: "As Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life": and further on; "Christ rising from the dead dieth now no more; so do you also reckon that you are dead to sin, but alive to God." Today I sit down with Fr. Gregory Pine to discuss how YOU can prepare for Lent! Buckle up! --- Aquinas' 3 Reasons We Fast Fasting is practiced for a threefold purpose. First, in order to bridle the lusts of the flesh, wherefore the Apostle says (2 Corinthians 6:5-6): "In fasting, in chastity," since fasting is the guardian of chastity. For, according to Jerome [Contra Jov. ii.] "Venus is cold when Ceres and Bacchus are not there," that is to say, lust is cooled by abstinence in meat and drink. Secondly, we have recourse to fasting in order that the mind may arise more freely to the contemplation of heavenly things: hence it is related (Daniel 10) of Daniel that he received a revelation from God after fasting for three weeks. Thirdly, in order to satisfy for sins: wherefore it is written (Joel 2:12): "Be converted to Me with all your heart, in fasting and in weeping and in mourning." The same is declared by Augustine in a sermon (De orat. et Jejun. [Serm. lxxii (ccxxx, de Tempore)]): "Fasting cleanses the soul, raises the mind, subjects one's flesh to the spirit, renders the heart contrite and humble, scatters the clouds of concupiscence, quenches the fire of lust, kindles the true light of chastity." WOF 085: Behind the Scenes Filming

She grew up playing a wide array of sports, from softball, basketball, volleyball, and track, to swimming and volleyball.  She has also played golf and in tennis leagues, plus she has run a half-marathon AND a triathlon.  Present day her focus, fitness-wise, is on stretching, strength, and restorative movement, adding that she loves a good hike. She has overcome personal tragedy more than once, and, she is the co-founder of SoulCore, a Catholic fitness apostolate whose mission is to amplify the experience of prayer through physical movement. Their signature SoulCore Rosary is a 60-minute strengthening workout that is set to the prayers of the rosary.
