Difficulties in Mental Prayer

There’s nothing like landing fighter jets on a moving ship… unless you count watching Vanderbilt fans carry a goalpost three miles to a river. 
In this episode, Father Dave Pivonka and Deacon Bob Rice cover a lot of ground—starting with Father Dave’s 26 hours aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier and somehow ending up in a debate over the MLB playoffs—with plenty of stops in between for college football’s biggest upset, Pete Rose’s Hall of Fame hopes (and his knack for stirring up controversy). They weave in hurricane updates, election-season frustrations, and how to keep hope anchored in Christ when the headlines and commercials make it hard. 
At the heart of the episode is a challenge to engage the world with charity and courage. She was inducted last year into the Athletic Hall of Fame at DeSales University, a Catholic school where she was a standout runner on the women's cross country and track & field teams. During her time at DeSales she was a part of three Cross Country PAC Championship teams, earning PAC Runner of the Year and All-PAC First Team honors twice each in 1994 and 1996. She was named to the PAC/CSAC 25th Anniversary Cross Country Team and was a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that continues to hold the indoor school record. Before DeSales she had been All-Catholic for the Philadelphia Catholic League every year of high school – in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track. She had been awarded MVP in her junior and senior year, the latter also seeing her win Female Athlete of the Year, which encompassed all sports at Cardinal Dougherty High School. She has also coached at a high school.

Episode 1 - The Father Kapaun Pilgrimage

He is one of the greatest middle-distance runners in American history and currently serves as the Head Coach for Track & Field/Cross Country at Ave Maria University. He is a three-time United States champion in the 1500-meter run and represented the United States in the event in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Prior to his current role he made coaching stops at the University of Virginia, Portland State University, and the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Following his retirement from competitive running, he became a successful triathlete, ranking in the top 100 in the world in the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon Series in 2015. In his early days he was even a successful youth swimmer.
