Every Catholic man can grow in happiness by building the Virtue of Gratitude so he can thank God for allowing him to be a Catholic man and by seeking the Gift of Fortitude from the Holy Spirit so he can be persistent in the battle to be fruitful in love.

He has been playing soccer since the age of five, although in high school he also played travel baseball. Following four years of high school soccer he played the sport at Belmont Abbey College. He played rugby after college and made a semi-pro soccer team, plus he spent six years as a soccer referee and has spent time coaching in the sport as well. He also is presently in a competitive volleyball league. He is the Director of Advancement at The St. Austin School, which is a pre-K - 8 Catholic school in St. Louis.

Blessed are the Peace Makers | Sam Sorich | Episode #212

He has won both a Super Bowl and college football national championship. He is entering his second season as Tulane University's special teams coordinator after having spent the 2022 season coordinating special teams for the USFL's Houston Gamblers and XFL's Houston Roughnecks. Prior to 2022, he spent five seasons with LSU, where he joined the staff as an analyst in 2017 and later took over as special teams coordinator. That followed his having spent eleven years with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, the first two as assistant special teams coordinator followed by nine seasons as special teams coordinator. During his time there the team won the Super Bowl in February 2010 over the Indianapolis Colts. He has spent decades around the game, first as a safety at Eastern Illinois and then as a coach at eight different schools over a 25-year period.

He is a world champion power lifter. Since 2018 he has broken nine state records in dead lift and bench press, along the way taking first place at the World Championships last year for the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters for 220-pound 50–54-year-olds. In college he had been a middle linebacker on the football team at the University of San Diego, a Catholic college where he also ran track for them, setting the school shot put and discus records. For approximately 25 years now he has been running a chiropractic sports clinic in the Pacific northwest where for years he has served numerous sports teams and events in roles such as medical director, team doctor, head drug tester, and team chiropractor.

A junior at Syracuse University where she plays on the softball team after having played at a different school each of the previous two years. In high school she had been a four-time all-state selection and set six school records. Her faith walk includes work that she did for a refugee family, which she mentions in this interview. Her father is a longtime baseball coach and her mother played college softball.

“Return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning; rend your hearts and not your garments.”   Rending garments refers to the ancient Jewish practice of tearing clothes as a physical expression of grief and anger in the face of death.  God wants more than just an outward sign of repentance—he wants our hearts to be torn, to be deeply repentant and sorrowful as a sign of turning away from sin and back toward the Father. He owns and coaches at a mixed martial arts gym and runs an acupuncture sports medicine clinic. He has been training in martial arts for 30 years, having started in karate and gotten his black belt in Koei Kan Karate at just 14 years old. He eventually trained in Wing Chun and practiced and taught it for ten years and got a black belt in it as well. Along the way he dabbled in different martial arts like Kendo, freestyle wrestling, Judo, and others, eventually finding his way into the world of MMA. He is now a fifth-degree black belt in SGC Karate and Kickboxing and a blue belt in BJJ. He is a convert to the faith and recently started a line of Catholic themed athletic clothing called Catholic Fightwear.

The Call to Care

He played two years for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and also spent time in the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts organizations. In addition, he played many years in the Canadian Football League and was a two-time Grey Cup champion as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who won the league title game in both 2007 and 2013. In 2009 he earned the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award and in 2013 he led the league in sacks. He would also play in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Edmonton Eskimos. As a student-athlete he had played college football at Utah State. Nowadays he is all about helping men become on fire, fit, and free.

Does God Care? Trusting God in the Storm

Anand Bheemarasetti is a modern missionary, business entrepreneur, media specialist, and community organizer who has dedicated himself to a life of service by following the inspiration of St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta. After outfitting the BeatiDudes with traditional Indian clothing, Anand shares his story of his roots and his transition to the United States. He had moved to Nebraska and was searching for a place to fit in. He was welcomed by a family who helped to set him on the right path. He was brought into various programs at his parish and started hanging out with seminarians, too. Then, he was introduced to FOCUS through a Bible study that blew his mind. These young people were sharing faith and praying together outside of church. He also attended the FOCUS conference later that year. While meeting with his spiritual director, it became clear that Anand’s vocation would not be priesthood. Instead, he set his sights on joining FOCUS as a missionary. His first year as a missionary was spent at Bradley University, followed by Illinois State University and the University of Colorado in Boulder, before he worked in marketing at the FOCUS headquarters. At the start of FOCUS, Anand knew about the one-year rule of no dating, so he started a friendship with the young lady who would eventually become his wife. Their courtship story is a great testament to building a strong foundation and playing the long game. Anand shares the inspiration that led to his current nonprofit. He had led mission trips to India and then started a media effort to bring Catholicism to YouTube through a series called Ask a Bishop. Then he decided to make a documentary in both Calcutta and Rome during the time of Mother Theresa’s canonization. As he started editing the footage, he heard the words repeatedly, “Find your own Calcutta.” That led to the start of Project Finding Calcutta, a service-focused ministry that provides opportunities for people to gather each week to perform corporal works of mercy.
