Faith, Family, and Farmstead with Joel Stroot

Nico Cabrera joins Paul Kolker, Nick Bezner, and Jeff Schiefelbein as he delves into the healing power of family, the beauty of choosing to grow, and why quality time together is what truly matters. From Colombian traditions (yes, cheese in hot chocolate and bananas with soup) to the sacred “movie moments” with nieces, to the case for showing up in person instead of living on Zoom, Nico threads humor, heritage, and holiness into a warm reflection on belonging. The Solemnity of the Annunciation of Our Lord - March 25, 2026 - Lk 1:26-38

This is the Every Catholic Man Gospel Devotional, where a man can draw closer to Jesus Christ, learn the Catholic faith and grow in happiness by becoming a better Catholic Son and Catholic Father Today we hear Jesus clearly proclaim that He is God and mysteriously avoid the Jews attempt to stone Him to death.   We’ll reflect upon need for every Catholic man to build the Virtue of Studiousness so he can both study and live out the Word of God every day of his life.   We’ll also consider the importance for every Catholic man to grow in the Virtue of Obedience so he is always obedient to the fullness of what Christ’s Holy Catholic Church proclaims.

Episode 53 - Jesus reveals His Divinity and escapes the evil Jewish leadership’s attempt to stone Him to death - Thursday March 30, 2023 - Jn 8:51-59

In the ascent towards holiness and happiness, a Catholic man must build the good habits (Virtue, from the Latin, vir, meaning “manliness, moral strength, goodness, valor”) of the moral life and break the bad habits (Vice, from the Latin, vitium, meaning “defect, offense, blemish, imperfection”) which cause him to fall into sin and risk losing his salvation. Father Troy was born and raised in Calgary, and attended Minor Seminary in high school, which led directly into seminary in preparation for the priesthood. He owns and coaches at a mixed martial arts gym and runs an acupuncture sports medicine clinic. He has been training in martial arts for 30 years, having started in karate and gotten his black belt in Koei Kan Karate at just 14 years old. He eventually trained in Wing Chun and practiced and taught it for ten years and got a black belt in it as well. Along the way he dabbled in different martial arts like Kendo, freestyle wrestling, Judo, and others, eventually finding his way into the world of MMA. He is now a fifth-degree black belt in SGC Karate and Kickboxing and a blue belt in BJJ. He is a convert to the faith and recently started a line of Catholic themed athletic clothing called Catholic Fightwear.

The Definition Of A Gentleman - Practical Ways To Restore Traditional Masculinity

The four levels of happiness are interconnected and there is a natural progression moving up the four levels. However, one of the four levels is going to be most dominant in your life. The choice you make reveals which level of happiness is your priority. As you repeatedly resolve conflicts of desire in favor of one particular level, that kind of happiness becomes your meaning in life. You start living for it and the other levels fade into the background.
The desires of Level 2 motivate us to pursue many good things. It is very good to achieve a lot with our lives—to further our education, to have status, security, self-esteem, and the power to get things done. But people who get caught up in the "comparison game" can find themselves trapped. Moving on to Levels 3 and 4 becomes necessary if they are to avoid unhappiness.

Some fun facts for you men about this incredible man: He is the patron saint of our beloved Catholic Church, unborn children, fathers, workers, travelers, immigrants, and a happy death. Feast Day: March 19th St. Joseph the Worker: May 1st, to counter the Communists' May Day by Pope Pius XII Month of March is dedicated to St. Joseph Wednesday (yes, every Wednesday!) is dedicated to him as well. For a man who wasn't venerated deeply in the Church until the 15th century, we are certainly trying to catch up! In this episode, James and Fr. Dom will dive into all things St. Joseph, this incredible man who was truly a man of silence. The Gospels don't record a single word of this man's life but his actions have been written about for centuries. A man who gets spoken to four times by angels is a man we all must emulate and listen to. Mother Cabrini was a humble woman who became outstanding not because she was famous, or rich, or powerful, but because she lived out the teachings of Jesus by performing corporal works of mercy with great love and devotion. She gave her life to the service of immigrants, the destitute, and those without hope. She accomplished this with a faith that was vibrant and alive in her heart, responding generously to Christ’s call to love our neighbor as ourselves. He was a tight end in the National Football League, having been the twelfth overall pick in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, with whom he played for two years before going on to play two more seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, all following a collegiate career as a four-year starter for the University of Notre Dame where he led the Fighting Irish in receiving each of his last three seasons and was first-team All-American as a senior. During his time with the Bills, he made the NFL's All-Rookie team. Plus, during his NFL career he won a division title and got within a game of the Super Bowl, and along the way he played alongside future Hall of Famers.

Why do we need masculinity in the church?  Dave and Drew talk about how to be a Catholic Man.  Men are called to be fathers: either a spiritual father or a biological father.  Without fatherhood, people in the church lose their identity.
