Appetites and Loves

We exist and desire to be loved and to love. St. Thomas Aquinas lists three appetites that are the basis for three loves. "And in each of these appetites, love is the principle of motion of the one tending into the end loved."

Here are a few points of discussion:

  • What is the difference between natural, sensitive, and intellectual appetites?

  • What are the differences between concupiscible and irascible appetites?
