Held in honor of St. Joseph&mdash;the Patron Saint of Canada&mdash;the event brought together voices from across the Diocese of Calgary. At the heart of the evening was the world premiere of an original musical setting of the Litany of St. Joseph. For a lot of Catholics, Lent is a time of finding the easiest way to "give something up". But, at the end of those 40 days, did that sacrifice really make a difference?

This year, there's a new opportunity out there specifically for men that will actually help you grow closer to God and become a better man.

You've heard me talk about Exodus 90 — but let me tell you about Exodus Lent: a 40-day journey that will challenge you to dig a little deeper this year.

If your first reaction is: "I'm absolutely not taking cold showers" well you're in luck: men who take on the Exodus Lent get to take warm showers, drink alcohol, and — when you’re with others — watch TV and sports. But don’t be fooled, this will still be a challenging 40 days of preparation for living the Christian life, for the rest of your life.

Here's how it works:

First — Over the 40 days of Lent, men commit to daily prayer, setting aside a minimum of 20 minutes to spend with the Lord. Each day includes a scripture reading and reflection written to help men better understand, grow in, and live virtue.

Second — More than just giving up chocolate, men take up a range of disciplines and sacrifices for the season of Lent. Sweets, snacks, social media, are all gone.

Third — Men commit to a fraternity of 5-7 men. Each week, the fraternity meets to pray together, check in, hold each other accountable and encourage one another.

On Easter Sunday, you'll walk away with a new and lasting understanding of what it means to live the full Christian life. Chocolate bunnies and all.

<li class="li2">A young contemporary of Don John’s, Miguel Cervantes, fought with abandon and lost his left hand to a Turkish blade. With his remaining hand, he later penned Spain’s greatest novel, Don Quixote.</li>
<li class="li2">On another galley, a soldier of the Holy League, his soul torn with despair, took his sword to the ship’s crucifix. The blade instantly shattered. Many years later, an attempt to re-forge the sword was made, but when the new blade was pulled from the fire, it fell to pieces.</li>
<li class="li2">The crucifix on board the Real, which twisted itself to avoid a Turkish cannonball, is displayed in a side chapel of the cathedral of Barcelona.</li>
<li class="li2">Gianandrea Doria carried on his galley a gift from the king of Spain, an image that is now displayed in the Doria chapel in the cathedral in Genoa. Exactly forty years before the battle of Lepanto, the Blessed Virgin appeared to a peasant boy leaving a miraculous image of herself on his smock. The bishop of the region immediately commissioned an artist to paint five copies of the image, and he touched each one to the original. Our Lady of Guadalupe was present at Lepanto.</li>

Battle of Lepanto

Logan O’Brien, Passing Game Coordinator for the Southlake Carroll Dragons, shares the highs and lows of high school football coaching with The BeatiDudes.Logan grew up playing football in San Angelo, Texas. As a junior, he helped his team snap a 21-game losing streak that season. After eight straight losses to start the year, they won the season's final two games. Logan then led the Bobcats to the first of nine straight playoff berths his senior season in 2010, including the program's first playoff win since 2006.After high school, Logan played for Eastern New Mexico University, scoring a critical touchdown to win the coveted Wagon Wheel trophy against West Texas A&amp;M. Logan met his future wife, Taylor, at Quarterback Ranch, where he made his first flirting attempt in front of her dad and brother by asking, “Can I take your trash?” Although that might not have been the winning line, the courting continued, and the couple married in 2022. Taylor founded Candid Dating, a virtual speed dating platform for Catholics looking to skip the swipe and get some face time.As a coach, Logan focuses on a potential player’s competitiveness, effort, and toughness, both physical and mental. In addition to coaching football in the fall and track in the spring, Logan also teaches Environmental Systems. What are some signs of tepidity?</h2><h2>In this episode, we discuss:</h2>Those who are tepid:<ol><li>Have a horror only of mortal sin, and think very little of venial sin</li><li>Perform the spiritual exercises negligently</li><li>Prays without attention</li><li>Confess without amendment</li><li>Receives communion without devotion and fruit</li><li>Perform their daily actions without a proper intention, without method or order</li><li>Being intent on exterior things, give less their thoughts to God</li><li>Content with mediocrity</li><li>Neglect the pursuit of a higher virtue</li><li>Avoid those who aim at perfection and eagerly seek the company of those who lead a life of greater laxity</li><li>Who form a conscience of their own, by false principles</li></ol> Dangers that invariably accompany tepidity<ol><li>Falling into mortal sin. The tepid live in a state of continual imperfection, commit venial sins without remorse, and but seldom consider the malice of sin, and the motives which should prompt them to refrain from the commission thereof.</li><li>That a tepid soul is on the point of being casts away, with disguise, by the Almighty God.&nbsp;</li><li>Lukewarmness</li><li>The Risk of not dying a pious death.</li></ol> Remedies to banish tepidity:It is very hard to cure tepidity. Catholic Spiritualities (Part 2)

Huge thanks to Philipe Ortiz and Katie Kuchar in particular for supporting to the show! --- We may speak about prayer in two ways: first, by considering it in itself; secondly, by considering it in its cause. The cause of prayer is the desire of charity, from which prayer ought to arise: and this desire ought to be in us continually, either actually or virtually, for the virtue of this desire remains in whatever we do out of charity; and we ought to "do all things to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). From this point of view prayer ought to be continual: wherefore Augustine says (ad Probam, Ep. cxxx, 9): "Faith, hope and charity are by themselves a prayer of continual longing." But prayer, considered in itself, cannot be continual, because we have to be busy about other works, and, as Augustine says (ad Probam. Ep. cxxx, 9), "we pray to God with our lips at certain intervals and seasons, in order to admonish ourselves by means of such like signs, to take note of the amount of our progress in that desire, and to arouse ourselves more eagerly to an increase thereof." Now the quantity of a thing should be commensurate with its end, for instance the quantity of the dose should be commensurate with health. And so it is becoming that prayer should last long enough to arouse the fervor of the interior desire: and when it exceeds this measure, so that it cannot be continued any longer without causing weariness, it should be discontinued. Wherefore Augustine says (ad Probam. Ep. cxxx): "It is said that the brethren in Egypt make frequent but very short prayers, rapid ejaculations, as it were, lest that vigilant and erect attention which is so necessary in prayer slacken and languish, through the strain being prolonged. By so doing they make it sufficiently clear not only that this attention must not be forced if we are unable to keep it up, but also that if we are able to continue, it should not be broken off too soon." And just as we must judge of this in private prayers by considering the attention of the person praying, so too, in public prayers we must judge of it by considering the devotion of the people.   Objection 1. It would seem that prayer should not be continual. It is written (Matthew 6:7): "When you are praying, speak not much." Now one who prays a long time needs to speak much, especially if his be vocal prayer. Therefore prayer should not last a long time. Reply to Objection 1. As Augustine says (ad Probam. Ep. cxxx), "to pray with many words is not the same as to pray long; to speak long is one thing, to be devout long is another. For it is written that our Lord passed the whole night in prayer, and that He 'prayed the longer' in order to set us an example." Further on he says: "When praying say little, yet pray much so long as your attention is fervent. For to say much in prayer is to discuss your need in too many words: whereas to pray much is to knock at the door of Him we pray, by the continuous and devout clamor of the heart. Indeed this business is frequently done with groans rather than with words, with tears rather than with speech." Objection 4. On the contrary, It would seem that we ought to pray continually. For our Lord said (Luke 18:1): "We ought always to pray, and not to faint": and it is written (1 Thessalonians 5:17): "Pray without ceasing." Reply to Objection 4. One may pray continually, either through having a continual desire, as stated above; or through praying at certain fixed times, though interruptedly; or by reason of the effect, whether in the person who prays--because he remains more devout even after praying, or in some other person--as when by his kindness a man incites another to pray for him, even after he himself has ceased praying.  ST.
