The aged bourbon is then moved to a Pedro Ximenz Sherry Cask for finishing. The mash bill on this particular expression is 68% corn, 18% wheat, and 14% malted barley. According to Rabbit Hole, Dareringer  is a small batch release made up of no more than 15 barrels. This Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 93 proof, has no official age statement, and carries an MSRP of $80.

<blockquote>
Three Things to be Avoided by Parents He should also admonish them to guard particularly against three things, in which they but too often transgress. In the first place, they are not by words or actions to exercise too much harshness towards their children. This is the instruction of St. Paul in his Epistle to the Colossians: “Fathers, he says, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. For there is danger that the spirit of the child may be broken, and he become abject and fearful of everything.” (Col. 3.21) Hence (the pastor) should 424 require parents to avoid too much severity and to choose rather to correct their children than to revenge themselves upon them. Should a fault be committed which requires reproof and chastisement, the parent should not, on the other hand, by undue indulgence, overlook its correction. Children are often spoiled by too much lenience and indulgence on the part of their parents. The pastor, therefore, should deter from such excessive mildness by the warning example of Heli, the high priest, who, on account of overindulgence to his sons, was visited with the heaviest chastisements. Finally, to avoid what is most shameful in the instruction and education of children, let them not propose to themselves aims that are unworthy. Many there are whose sole concern is to leave their children wealth, riches and an ample and splendid fortune; who encourage them not to piety and religion, or to honorable employment, but to avarice, and an increase of wealth, and who, provided their children are rich and wealthy, are regardless of their good name and eternal salvation. Can anything more shameful be thought or expressed? Of such parents it is true to say, that instead of bequeathing wealth to their children, they leave them rather their own wickedness and crimes for an inheritance; and instead of conducting them to Heaven, lead them to the eternal torments of Hell. The priest, therefore, should impress on the minds of parents salutary principles and should exhort them to imitate the virtuous example of Tobias, that having properly trained up their children to the service of God and to holiness of life, they may, in turn, experience at their hands abundant fruit of filial affection, respect and obedience.

Worldly Fatherhood Vs. Catholic Fatherhood

Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P., is a friar of the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Dallas in 2011, entered the Order of Preachers in 2013, and was ordained a priest in May of 2020. He holds a licentiate in sacred theology from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. At present, he serves as Coordinator for Campus Outreach at the Thomistic Institute.

Founded in 2009, the Thomistic Institute is part of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception. The New (NOVUM) Catholic Renaissance | Will Hickl | Episode #063

"Nocturnal pollution may be considered in two ways. First, in itself; and thus it has not the character of a sin. For every sin depends on the judgment of reason, since even the first movement of the sensuality has nothing sinful in it, except in so far as it can be suppressed by reason; wherefore in the absence of reason's judgment, there is no sin in it. Now during sleep reason has not a free judgment. For there is no one who while sleeping does not regard some of the images formed by his imagination as though they were real, as stated above in the <a href="http://www.ccel.org/ccel/aquinas/summa.FP_Q84_A8.html">FP, Q[84], A[8]</a>, ad 2. Wherefore what a man does while he sleeps and is deprived of reason's judgment, is not imputed to him as a sin, as neither are the actions of a maniac or an imbecile. Secondly, nocturnal pollution may be considered with reference to its cause. This may be threefold. One is a bodily cause. For when there is excess of seminal humor in the body, or when the humor is disintegrated either through overheating of the body or some other disturbance, the sleeper dreams things that are connected with the discharge of this excessive or disintegrated humor: the same thing happens when nature is cumbered with other superfluities, so that phantasms relating to the discharge of those superfluities are formed in the imagination. Accordingly if this excess of humor be due to a sinful cause (for instance excessive eating or drinking), nocturnal pollution has the character of sin from its cause: whereas if the excess or disintegration of these superfluities be not due to a sinful cause, nocturnal pollution is not sinful, neither in itself nor in its cause. A second cause of nocturnal pollution is on the part of the soul and the inner man: for instance when it happens to the sleeper on account of some previous thought. For the thought which preceded while he was awake, is sometimes purely speculative, for instance when one thinks about the sins of the flesh for the purpose of discussion; while sometimes it is accompanied by a certain emotion either of concupiscence or of abhorrence. Now nocturnal pollution is more apt to arise from thinking about carnal sins with concupiscence for such pleasures, because this leaves its trace and inclination in the soul, so that the sleeper is more easily led in his imagination to consent to acts productive of pollution. In this sense the Philosopher says (Ethic. i, 13) that "in so far as certain movements in some degree pass" from the waking state to the state of sleep, "the dreams of good men are better than those of any other people": and Augustine says (Gen. ad lit. xii, 15) that "even during sleep, the soul may have conspicuous merit on account of its good disposition." Thus it is evident that nocturnal pollution may be sinful on the part of its cause. on the other hand, it may happen that nocturnal pollution ensues after thoughts about carnal acts, though they were speculative, or accompanied by abhorrence, and then it is not sinful, neither in itself nor in its cause. The third cause is spiritual and external; for instance when by the work of a devil the sleeper's phantasms are disturbed so as to induce the aforesaid result. Sometimes this is associated with a previous sin, namely the neglect to guard against the wiles of the devil. Hence the words of the hymn at even: "Our enemy repress, that so our bodies no uncleanness know" [*Translation W. K. Blount]. On the other hand, this may occur without any fault on man's part, and through the wickedness of the devil alone. Thus we read in the Collationes Patrum (Coll. xxii, 6) of a man who was ever wont to suffer from nocturnal pollution on festivals, and that the devil brought this about in order to prevent him from receiving Holy Communion. Hence it is manifest that nocturnal pollution is never a sin, but is sometimes the result of a previous sin." ST II-II. Q 154. A5. Christian leaders have to do something difficult – we have to constantly balance asserting ourselves and using our talents and being humble before God.  Errors can happen in both ways either by not asserting ourselves or by losing sight of the service we render to Jesus.  St. Paul was not unaware of this challenge.  In First Timothy 5 and 6 he shows St. Timothy how to make this proper balance and exhorts him to lead while being friend to Christ.

Heart of a Hero

Back when I worked as an apologist with Catholic Answers we received a lot of questions around this time of year. Perhaps the most common was, "are Sunday's excluded from Lent?" The answer is . . . are you ready for this? No. Sunday's are not excluded from Lent. According to the <a href="https://www.ewtn.com/library/CURIA/CDWLITYR.HTM">General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar</a>, "Lent runs from Ash Wednesday until the Mass of the Lord's Supper exclusive" (28). No exceptions are given for Sunday's during Lent. In fact, a couple of paragraphs later the GN says: "The Sundays of this season are called the First, Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Sundays of Lent. The Sixth Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week, is called Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday)" (30). So there you have it. Now, does that mean that we cannot choose to allow ourselves the things we voluntarily gave up for lent? No, it doesn't. These voluntary fasts are personal devotions. Because they have been voluntarily taken up, we can choose to set them aside. That said, be awesome and sacrifice this Lent. What my P.E coach told me in middle-school applies to Lent also, "mate, if it's not hurting, you're not doing it right." Patti Defilippis is the director of all the Saint Luke Productions live dramas and the screenwriter for the feature film Thérèse. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater, she began her career at the Alley Theater in Houston, Texas. She then acted in the Fort Worth Shakespeare Festival, as well as various dinner theaters. Expanding to the West Coast, Patti performed with the Oregon Shakespearean Festival in Ashland, Oregon. There, she met her husband, Leonardo Defilippis. While in Ashland, she experienced a conversion to Catholicism, which changed the direction of her theatrical career. Since coming into the Church, Patti has enjoyed more than 45 years directing, writing and performing in the spiritual films and plays of Saint Luke Productions. Although she was trained as an actress, she finds the behind-the-scenes elements of theater and film more rewarding. She enjoys collaborating in, refining, and editing Leonardo’s broad and ambitious vision for a new Catholic presence in the media.
