It’s common place to hear people say that things are happening today that have never happened before and that social tensions today are unique.  However true that statement might be it needs to be grounded in history.  In point of fact, the political tensions, the social tensions we suffer from today have roots as far back as the industrial era.  Encyclical “Rerum Novarum” by Pope Leo XIII addressed many of these tensions and by studying them we can gain jewels of wisdom for our approach today.

So you are probably asking how? How can I change the world? You unlock your power to change the world by becoming a saint. All of us are called to be saints.

We accomplish this by drawing closer to God in prayer, the Sacraments, and reading scripture. If we do these three fundamental things we will find ourselves growing in holiness and changing the world. It begins by saying "yes" to God on a daily basis. Will you say "yes" today?

Perhaps the greatest miracle that Don Bosco worked is developing a “fool proof” method for forming youth.  The foundation of the Preventive System is the abiding presence of the father. Indeed, Don Bosco based the entire system upon the vision of a father within the home.

Above all else, the father was to ensure the moral and spiritual formation of his children so that one day they
would all be together in heaven.  We will see that, “Bad books, bad companions and bad habits” lead innocent youths astray. We are called to be the protectors of our families.  

Today, the enemy is most frequently within our gates and God has given us a stern warning.

Several Maronite missionaries took a photo of themselves before the Saint’s grave. After the photo was developed, it turned out that there was another unknown figure—that of a monk—standing among them. Some of the elderly monks recognized that figure as Father Charbel himself, and from that time on this photo has been the prototype of all subsequent portraits of the saint hermit. Christ was proclaimed “the man” at precisely the moment that he offered his life for his bride. We must carefully consider this moment. It will teach us much about the heart of a man.

The Church is purified in the water flowing from Christ’s wounded heart. It is a heart that has a consuming thirst for an encounter with God the Father. This is the light shining on manhood for all men including the first man.

To be a man means embracing the sacrifice asked by God the Father for the sake of the bride. When we do so, our heart becomes a channel for grace that purifies and gives life to the bride. Living this calling has been a challenge “from the beginning.”
