He is a Professor of Athletic Training & Sports Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Over the last 30+ years he has worked in higher education teaching the next generation of athletic training and physical therapy students. He has also practiced clinically in a variety of athletic settings providing medical and rehabilitative services, including having worked as an athletic trainer in professional baseball here in the U.S. and professional soccer in Costa Rica. How Sacrifice Broke An Addiction and Led to the Catholic Church

Mike Neri has a long record of service to the nation, his communities, and corporate and entrepreneurial organizations. A West Point graduate, Mike served in the Army on active duty for 12 years, attaining the rank of Major. He served in duty assignments and positions of leadership in the 1st Cavalry Division, the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, the 10th Combat Support Hospital, and in the Department of the Army Staff in the Pentagon. While on active duty serving in Colorado, Mike earned his MBA from Regis University. Mike transitioned to corporate America in 2004 and began a career in banking &amp; financial services specializing in Fintech and Payments.What defines Mike most is his care, love, and focus on his family. The show starts with a reflection on how Mike and Jeff met in 2005 through the Christ Renews His Parish retreat at St. Thomas Aquinas in East Dallas. This proved to be a formative moment for Mike’s spiritual journey and his connection to authentic Catholic community for himself and his family. Mike goes on to share the journey of his time in the Army and the various stages of his career and work while also raising a family. During his time serving in Washington, DC, Mike worked for a few years in the Pentagon and happened to be onsite during the attacks of September 11, 2001. Mike’s original office was in the direct path of the airplane that struck the Pentagon, and thankfully his office had relocated to the inner ring only months earlier for a renovation. This tragic experience of this event reignited Mike’s faith. <h4>About the beer &#8211; Fr. Dominic Belgian Quad 9% ABV</h4>
In 1875 Father Dominic, a Belgian Monk, would travel to Indian Territory with the Saint Benedictine Monks from France. He would become the first brewmeister in the territory. This Abbey Quad in strict obedience, gives reverence to Father Dominic. His fermented drinks were enjoyed by the local Native Americans and many of the early boomers. This is a dark Belgian style Quad that is beautifully complex with hints of molasses, prairie fruits, and Belgian Candi. It is a heavenly smooth and delightful elixir that is dangerously drinkable.

What Can Demons Do? | Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P.

In this week’s episode, I’m diving deep into a question that we don’t often ask ourselves: “Are you being kind to yourself?” Not in the sense of pampering or indulgence, but in how we speak to ourselves, care for our mental and spiritual well-being, and confront the challenges life throws our way.

After a busy few weeks on the road and dealing with personal struggles—including trying to write a book and battling spiritual attacks—I found myself caught in a cycle of negative self-talk. From questioning my role as a husband and father to feeling overwhelmed by ministry work, it seemed like the devil was hitting me with every doubt and lie he could muster.

But here’s the truth: God doesn’t want us to live in that darkness. He calls us to renew our minds, as St. Paul says, and to take every thought captive to Christ. In this episode, I share the powerful moments when God intervened, reminding me of my worth and guiding me to be kinder to myself. I talk about the importance of resting, leaning on God’s grace, and breaking free from the lies that make us feel unworthy or inadequate.

We also explore how these personal struggles affect not just ourselves, but those around us—our families, our friends, and our communities. When we’re not kind to ourselves, it’s hard to love others as Christ calls us to . . .

Currently the manager of the Kingsport Mets, he coached in the major leagues for over 25 years, most recently as third base coach with the Seattle Mariners but other stops along the way that included a World Series ring with the Florida Marlins in 1997. HOLLYWOOD and JESUS | Matthew Marsden | Episode #167

Providing some emotional testimony in the second half of this episode, he’d won eight consecutive state championships and nine overall as the volleyball coach at Marysville High School in Michigan where he had three consecutive undefeated seasons, registering 192 straight wins. He won 20 consecutive district and regional championships and over ten seasons had an amazing won-lost record of 584-9. In 2015 he was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He coached three sports for 27 consecutive years at Marysville, and all together, he coached football, girls basketball, boys basketball, track & field, and volleyball. He is the author of a book titled, "Coaching 100 Days With Jesus."

Miracles Do Happen: In this episode, we are honored to have Dr. Ben Carson - the world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, two-time speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast, presidential candidate, and author. We discuss Dr. Carson’s life and faith, and how he almost miraculously overcame adversity, and went from a life of dire poverty to national recognition. Dr. Carson will share some stories of real miracles he witnessed as a neurosurgeon. We will also discuss what miracles are and the essential part they play in our Faith. -- About Dr. Ben CarsonNeurosurgeon, medical director, foundation executive and author Dr. Benjamin Solomon Carson, Sr. was born on September 18, 1951 in Detroit Michigan, to Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson. After the couple separated, Carson and his brother Curtis lived with their mother. Although she worked several jobs at a time, Sonya supported the family and played a tremendous role in shaping the lives of her sons. Upon seeing her sons’ poor performance in school, Sonya required them to read regularly and to present her with weekly book reports, although she herself only had a third grade education and had difficulty reading. In 1969, Carson graduated with honors as the student “Most likely to succeed,” from Southwestern High School, a public school located in southwest Detroit, Michigan. During his early years, although Carson had improved his grades considerably, he had to overcome his temper. After an incident in which he almost stabbed a friend, Carson made up his mind to change his ways. Upon receiving his high school diploma, Carson attended Yale University, where he would meet his future wife, Lacena “Candy” Rustin. After graduating from Yale University with his B.A. degree in psychology in 1973, he went on to the University of Michigan School of Medicine. After receiving his M.D. degree in 1977, Carson trained at Johns Hopkins University, where he completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in neurological surgery. In 1983, Carson traveled to Perth, Australia to serve as a senior registrar in neurosurgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. A year later, he returned to Johns Hopkins and by the following year was named Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery. In 1987, through a ground-breaking surgical procedure, Carson successfully separated conjoined twins who were attached at the head. Outside of his work as a world-renowned surgeon, Carson has been civically active. Using his own life story as a background, Carson has written four motivational books, which include: "Gifted Hands" in 1990, "The Big Picture" in 2000, "Think Big" in 2006, and "Take the Risk: Learning to Identify, Choose, and Live with Acceptable Risk" in 2007. The first of these works served as the inspiration for a film of the same title, in which Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays the role of Carson. Carson has also created three foundations—the Carson Scholars Fund, the Ben Carson Reading Project, and Angels of the Operating Room. He serves on the board of directors of the Kellogg Company and CostCo Wholesale Corporation. In 2008, President George W. Bush presented Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award. From Ordinary to Saint: The Incredible Journey to Holiness 

In the ascent towards holiness and happiness, a Catholic man must build the good habits (Virtue, from the Latin, vir, meaning “manliness, moral strength, goodness, valor”) of the moral life and break the bad habits (Vice, from the Latin, vitium, meaning “defect, offense, blemish, imperfection”) which cause him to fall into sin and risk losing his salvation. WOF 435: The Enduring Relevance of St. Thomas Aquinas

Levels 1 and 2 aren't bad; they simply aren't enough. Though it may seem easy to get stuck in the pursuit of pleasure or status, we all have deeper needs that call us to higher levels of happiness. It can be difficult to overcome habits that focus on the lower levels, but the effort brings us closer to our true self and gives us a liberating and renewed sense of our real purpose.
Once we move outside ourselves (past Level 2) to a concern for others (Level 3), we are faced with the wider world in which we discover a loving Creator calling us to our transcendent destiny (Level 4) and a shared eternal relationship with him.

The Faith to Reach Transcendence

Gnosticism was one of the earliest heresies of the Church, and it remains among the most enduring. With an emphasis on special knowledge acquired only by a small group of enlightened elites, as well as a sharp division between spirit and matter, with spiritual things being good and material things being evil, Gnosticism still thrives today everywhere from crack conspiracy theories to Hollywood movies to our culture of self-invention. WOF 222: Gnosticism, the Enduring Heresy

It is written (Ezekiel 36:25): "I will pour upon you clean water, and you shall be cleansed from all your filthiness." I answer that, As the Apostle says (Romans 6:3), "all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in His death." And further on he concludes (Romans 6:11): "So do you also reckon that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Hence it is clear that by Baptism man dies unto the oldness of sin, and begins to live unto the newness of grace. But every sin belongs to the primitive oldness. Consequently every sin is taken away by Baptism.  --- the Passion of Christ is communicated to every baptized person, so that he is healed just as if he himself had suffered and died. Now Christ's Passion . . .  is a sufficient satisfaction for all the sins of all men. Consequently he who is baptized, is freed from the debt of all punishment due to him for his sins, just as if he himself had offered sufficient satisfaction for all his sins. ---  As Augustine says in the book on Infant Baptism (De Pecc. Merit. et Remiss. i) "the effect of Baptism is that the baptized are incorporated in Christ as His members." Now the fulness of grace and virtues flows from Christ theHead to all His members, according to John 1:16: "Of His fulness we all have received." For all things are subject to His providence, as was shown above (I:22:2). Now it belongs to providence to direct things towards their end, as was also said (I:22:1 and I:22:2). The end towards which created things are directed by God is twofold; one which exceeds all proportion and faculty of created nature; and this end is life eternal, that consists in seeing God which is above the nature of every creature, as shown above (I:12:4). The other end, however, is proportionate to created nature, to which end created being can attain according to the power of its nature. Now if a thing cannot attain to something by the power of its nature, it must be directed thereto by another; thus, an arrow is directed by the archer towards a mark. Hence, properly speaking, a rational creature, capable of eternal life, is led towards it, directed, as it were, by God. The reason of that direction pre-exists in God; as in Him is the type of the order of all things towards an end, which we proved above to be providence. Now the type in the mind of the doer of something to be done, is a kind of pre-existence in him of the thing to be done. Hence the type of the aforesaid direction of a rational creature towards the end of life eternal is called predestination. For to destine, is to direct or send. Thus it is clear that predestination, as regards its objects, is a part of providence. --- God does reprobate some. For it was said above (Article 1) that predestination is a part of providence. To providence, however, it belongs to permit certain defects in those things which are subject to providence, as was said above (I:22:2). Thus, as men are ordained to eternal life through the providence of God, it likewise is part of that providence to permit some to fall away from that end; this is called reprobation. Thus, as predestination is a part of providence, in regard to those ordained to eternal salvation, so reprobation is a part of providence in regard to those who turn aside from that end. Hence reprobation implies not only foreknowledge, but also something more, as does providence, as was said above (I:22:1). Therefore, as predestination includes the will to confer grace and glory; so also reprobation includes the will to permit a person to fall into sin, and to impose the punishment of damnation on account of that sin.
