This week we have a call to action instead of an actual gear. The <a href="https://press.vatican.va/content/salastampa/en/bollettino/pubblico/2020/10/23/201023b.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Vatican</a> has extended plenary <a href="https://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07783a.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">indulgences</a> for the dead throughout the month of November. Two main ways to gain the indulgences in the month of November: 1. Visit a cemetery and pray for the dead during the Octave of All Saints' Day. 2. Those who piously visit a church or oratory on All Souls' Day and recited the Our Father and the Creed. The decree also encourages priests to make the sacraments as widely available as possible during November.

As men, we have a tendency to hide our pain from others. We like to show off a strong impervious armor to others when deep down we can be experiencing a tremendous amount of pain. 

Hiding our pain can even extend to hiding our pain from God. Pain ultimately creates vulnerability and that vulnerability can manifest in lies and other forms of sin. We can choose to be vulnerable with God or we can choose to be vulnerable to sin. 

It is up to us to search our souls and share our pain with God. Don't avoid your pain don't ignore your sin; face it head on bringing it to God in Confession and remember that you are not alone in your pain, God is right there with you.

#39 STOP HIDING

Jesus boldly proclaimed, “I am the way, the truth, and the life”. In order to be His disciple, one must make Jesus Christ the foundation of life and proclaim His Lordship in every area of life. Much like the rose window in Chartres Cathedral, a well ordered soul revolves around the great center, which is Christ. He played football his freshman year of high school, moved on to discus and two conference championships in that sport, and then went on to a long career in lacrosse, a sport that he remains involved with to this day. He played for the Illinois Wesleyan University Club Lacrosse team, Oxford University, and Second City/Windy City Men's Club, and he still plays in an over-30 league. Therefore things without intellect are not made to God's image. I answer that, Not every likeness, not even what is copied from something else, is sufficient to make an image; for if the likeness be only generic, or existing by virtue of some common accident, this does not suffice for one thing to be the image of another. For instance, a worm, though from man it may originate, cannot be called man's image, merely because of the generic likeness. Nor, if anything is made white like something else, can we say that it is the image of that thing; for whiteness is an accident belonging to many species. But the nature of an image requires likeness in species; thus the image of the king exists in his son: or, at least, in some specific accident, and chiefly in the shape; thus, we speak of a man's image in copper. WOF 376: Peter Kreeft on Socrates vs. the Sophists

In the ascent towards holiness and happiness, a Catholic man must build the good habits (Virtue, from the Latin, vir, meaning “manliness, moral strength, goodness, valor”) of the moral life and break the bad habits (Vice, from the Latin, vitium, meaning “defect, offense, blemish, imperfection”) which cause him to fall into sin and risk losing his salvation.
