Everybody who is successful knows that great ideas are only the beginning.  You need a strategic plan, you need helpers along the journey, and you need the staying power of pure determination.  Does our faith have anything to do with this?  Does being a Christian give an advantage to leaders?  Or is there any overlap between the faith and the demands of our practical life?  We believe that there is and one of the best places to see it is in the beauty of grit.

He spent 23 years working for the Harlem Globetrotters, leading the team's Communications Department. During that time, he arranged two visits to the Vatican and accompanied the Globetrotters players to meet Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. Previously he had served as VP of Communications for the Continental Basketball Association, working as the league’s main spokesperson and liaison to the NBA and USA Basketball. His international experience also included work on the US Olympic Committee press information team at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and serving as assistant venue press manager for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. As a student-athlete he played football, baseball, and ran track & field in high school, still holding the school record for 400-meter hurdles and being inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2018. This past March he was named the Director of Communications for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix. He is also a professional sports photographer and prior to his new role shot Georgia Tech football and men’s and women’s basketball.

10,000 Objections to Catholicism ANSWERED w/ Jimmy Akin

He is a professor and Kule Chair at St. Joseph's College, a Catholic college at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada. Three months ago marked the release of a book he co-authored, called, "On the Eighth Day: A Catholic Theology of Sport," and three years ago he was the lead editor of a book titled, "Sport and Christianity: Practices for the Twenty-First Century." He even has another book that he is working on, which is talked about in this interview. As part of his higher education, he studied at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. As a student-athlete he played high school basketball and in his adult years has done some coaching and has played recreational sports.

Deacon Harold welcomes Arland Nichols to the show. Arland K. Nichols is president and founder of the St. John Paul II Foundation. Early in his career, as an educator and non-profit executive, he became a popular speaker and successful writer while he established the groundwork for the initiatives that would become the St. John Paul II Foundation. Arland launched the St. John Paul II Foundation in 2014 and he is author of the 4th edition of the Handbook on Critical Life Issues published in 2024 by the National Catholic Bioethics Center. Arland earned a B.A. in philosophy from Texas A&M, an M.Div. in Theology from University of St. Thomas, and pursued doctoral studies in bioethics at Regina Apostolorum in Rome. With the generous support of his wife, Cindy, and their ten children, Arland is blessed to lead the St. John Paul II Foundation as it serves, educates, and supports medical professionals, married couples, and clergy.

A Look into St. Francis de Sales

Fr. Dave Pivonka on the Necessity of Prayer

I'm thrilled to be back in the studio after an incredible week at the  National Eucharistic Congress. In this episode, I’m diving into all the amazing experiences and graces from the event in Indianapolis, where over 60,000 Catholics gathered. It was such a powerful moment for our community, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts and stories with you.

We’ll talk about the highlights, the inspiring speakers, and the impact this Congress had on all of us. Plus, I'll discuss what comes next after this revival. Spoiler: we're talking about keeping the momentum going and continuing to strengthen our faith.

During the Congress, I had the chance to meet so many of you at our booth. We shared stories, took pictures, and enjoyed some great conversations. A special thank you to those who joined our live podcast session with Father Malachy – your support means the world to us!

One touching moment was meeting a young man who shared how a previous podcast episode had helped him return to his faith. It’s encounters like these that remind us why we do what we do.

I also reflected on the biblical figures we can learn from: Moses, who doubted his ability but led the Israelites out of Egypt with God's guidance; David, the shepherd boy who became a king and defeated Goliath; Gideon, who overcame his fear to lead Israel to victory; Jeremiah, the young prophet who spoke God's word despite his youth; and Peter, the fisherman who became the rock of the Church after his encounter with Jesus.
