Christians have long professed that we are at the same time like everyone else and different.  We’re the same because we are human just like anyone else but we’re different because we have received the grace of Christ.  Well if this is true then our leadership will also be the same and different.  Our leadership will have to follow the same laws as everyone else and the same structure but we should also be leading with the grace of Christ.  I wanted to find out what this meant and share a short course with you.  A series of talks on this subject to help you appreciate the Christian advantage.

She holds a PhD in theology from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Washington DC along with a Masters in Theology &amp; Christian Ministry with certification in catechetics from Franciscan University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University in English and Secondary Education. From 2010 to 2015, she underwent spiritual formation with the Secular Institute of Notre-Dame de Vie in France and Germany. <div>March 2nd is Ash Wednesday, and over a billion people will start living different in some way. Maybe giving up chocolate or alcohol, or whatever.</div>
For a lot of Catholics, Lent is a time of finding the easiest way to “give something up”. But, at the end of those 40 days, did that sacrifice really make a difference?

This year, there’s a new opportunity out there specifically for men that will actually help you grow closer to God and become a better man.

You’ve heard me talk about Exodus 90 — but let me tell you about Exodus Lent: a 40-day journey that will challenge you to dig a little deeper this year.

If your first reaction is: “I’m absolutely not taking cold showers” well you’re in luck: men who take on the Exodus Lent get to take warm showers, drink alcohol, and — when you’re with others — watch TV and sports. But don’t be fooled, this will still be a challenging 40 days of preparation for living the Christian life, for the rest of your life.

Here’s how it works:

First — Over the 40 days of Lent, men commit to daily prayer, setting aside a minimum of 20 minutes to spend with the Lord. Each day includes a scripture reading and reflection written to help men better understand, grow in, and live virtue.

Second — More than just giving up chocolate, men take up a range of disciplines and sacrifices for the season of Lent. Sweets, snacks, social media, are all gone.

Third — Men commit to a fraternity of 5-7 men. Each week, the fraternity meets to pray together, check in, hold each other accountable and encourage one another.

On Easter Sunday, you’ll walk away with a new and lasting understanding of what it means to live the full Christian life. Chocolate bunnies and all.

Mitch Boersma’s visit to the BeatiDudes was a bit of a homecoming after he graduated from the nearby University of Dallas in 2008, where he switched his majors from Theology to Business. Mitch is the Chief Operating Officer of the Catholic Information Center and co-founder of The Leonine Forum – a year-long program dedicated to giving young professionals in Washington a renewed understanding and love for the Social Teachings of the Church. Today we discuss with Thomas the sin of sloth. What is it? When does it become a mortal sin? --- Sloth, according to Damascene (De Fide Orth. ii, 14) is an oppressive sorrow, which, to wit, so weighs upon man's mind, that he wants to do nothing; thus acid things are also cold. Hence sloth implies a certain weariness of work, as appears from a gloss on Psalm 106:18, "Their soul abhorred all manner of meat," and from the definition of some who say that sloth is a "sluggishness of the mind which neglects to begin good." Now this sorrow is always evil, sometimes in itself, sometimes in its effect. For sorrow is evil in itself when it is about that which is apparently evil but good in reality, even as, on the other hand, pleasure is evil if it is about that which seems to be good but is, in truth, evil. Since, then, spiritual good is a good in very truth, sorrow about spiritual good is evil in itself. And yet that sorrow also which is about a real evil, is evil in its effect, if it so oppresses man as to draw him away entirely from good deeds. Hence the Apostle (2 Corinthians 2:7) did not wish those who repented to be "swallowed up with overmuch sorrow." Accordingly, since sloth, as we understand it here, denotes sorrow for spiritual good, it is evil on two counts, both in itself and in point of its effect. Consequently it is a sin, for by sin we mean an evil movement of the appetite, as appears from what has been said above (II-II:10:2; I-II:74:4). ... mortal sin is so called because it destroys the spiritual life which is the effect of charity, whereby God dwells in us. Wherefore any sin which by its very nature is contrary to charity is a mortal sin by reason of its genus. And such is sloth, because the proper effect of charity is joy in God, as stated above (II-II:28:1), while sloth is sorrow about spiritual good in as much as it is a Divine good. Therefore sloth is a mortal sin in respect of its genus. But it must be observed with regard to all sins that are mortal in respect of their genus, that they are not mortal, save when they attain to their perfection. Because the consummation of sin is in the consent of reason: for we are speaking now of human sins consisting in human acts, the principle of which is the reason. Wherefore if the sin be a mere beginning of sin in the sensuality alone, without attaining to the consent of reason, it is a venial sin on account of the imperfection of the act. Thus in the genus of adultery, the concupiscence that goes no further than the sensuality is a venial sin, whereas if it reach to the consent of reason, it is a mortal sin. So too, the movement of sloth is sometimes in the sensuality alone, by reason of the opposition of the flesh to the spirit, and then it is a venial sin; whereas sometimes it reaches to the reason, which consents in the dislike, horror and detestation of the Divine good, on account of the flesh utterly prevailing over the spirit. Joel Stepanek is the Chief Operating Officer for the National Eucharistic Congress and an avid fan of great music. After stumbling across the band Black-Eyed Peas in 2001, Joel created a website about the group and their upbeat, positive style of hip-hop music. His work was noticed early on by the band, and they soon reached out to Joel to offer him news, updates, and backstage passes for his fan site. As high school progressed, Joel stopped updating the site just a bit before the Black-Eyed Peas became a worldwide phenomenon.However, the lessons of Joel’s connection to the band did not end with the website. Instead, Joel realized that his love for music and its ability to transform the people who hear it paled in comparison to the similar impact that ministry could have on the world and that is why he dropped his other career pursuits to focus on the sharing the greatest thing of all, the Gospel. Joel is also an author with several books under his belt, covering many topics, including humility, authentic masculinity, and discernment. He explains that discernment is the ability to listen and respond to the interior movements of the Holy Spirit in our heart, and it requires a spiritual “affective”ness and an emotional “affective”ness.
