"Where the man goes, so goes the culture." Join Drew Taylor from Catholic Link as he interviews Dave DiNuzzo from TrueManhood about the Current State of Manliness. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God, and true man. 

Why do men matter? We need men to be servant leaders, just as Christ was.  Men who are not called to the priesthood need to give themselves completely in a self-sacrificial way to their wives and children. We need to learn to become a Catholic man who is growing to become a holy and virtuous man. 

Why do we need masculinity in the church?  Dave and Drew talk about how to be a Catholic Man.  Men are called to be fathers: either a spiritual father or a biological father.  Without fatherhood, people in the church lose their identity.

As deacons, each of us is called to use our particular gifts and personal histories to serve those entrusted to our care—both inside and outside the bounds of our parish. Responding to this call might entail battling—and conquering—those “demons” that want to con¬vince us that we are not good enough to evangelize, as well as those that urge us not to venture out, but to remain “safe” in the confines of the parish. And yet, if we want to image Christ the Servant, we must be willing to stretch ourselves and go outside our comfort zones. Fifteen years before Deacon Michael Oles was ordained, he started volunteering one night a month at the Dorothy Day House, a home¬less shelter in Danbury, Connecticut. It was an unnerving experi¬ence—more difficult than anything he’d encountered in his 20-year Air Force career. More than anything, it was the smell that got him: wet and earthy body odor commingled with unwashed clothes and fear in an open room that housed seventeen twin beds separated by small partitions. Off The Street

In college she was left paralyzed with a broken back after a bus accident involving her swim team from the University of Notre Dame, with two teammates having been killed instantly. After five back operations and being told she wouldn't walk, not to mention swim again, miraculously, she returned to competitive swimming for Notre Dame 21 months after the bus accident and her injury. Her 2008 book, What Though The Odds, details what she went through and her "journey of faith and triumph." She later became Assistant Swim Coach at Xavier College Prep, the all-girls Catholic high school in Phoenix that she had attended. She also talks here about two pilgrimages this and two years ago that she says reignited her faith and commitment to service.

WOF 181: J.R.R. Tolkien, Master Evangelist

Friends, today we share a talk I recently gave to the service men and women at the United State Air Force Academy. After previously speaking at the <a href= "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBgmZdM0IKg" target="_blank" rel= "noreferrer noopener">Naval Academy</a> about three sailors from the Bible, then at <a href= "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFsvWeam01o" target="_blank" rel= "noreferrer noopener">West Point</a> about three soldiers from the Old Testament, I wondered, what should I speak of to the Air Force Academy? What came to me was the angels, those famous fliers in the pages of the Bible. I told the Air Force men and women that they are flyers, too, and so they should consider the angelic realm, the realm of pure spirits, those who fly into the very presence of God, becoming radiant by contact with him. I encouraged them to join the angels in flight, trust their life to a higher power, and become a person of right praise. We passionately believe that the most urgent task is the compelling proclamation of the gospel, one that not only shares it in an attractive – and concentrated – way, but that also offers people a way of seeing reality, and of making sense of the world, history, and life that is vastly different from the story our modern culture tells.

Until this happens, the Christian faith is often experienced as a mere set of rules and disciplines, and simply going to Church isn’t likely to lead a person to embark on the great adventure that is following Jesus and continuing His mission of the rescuing of this world.  We don’t think most people have ever heard the gospel.

What is The Rescue Project?

The Rescue Project seeks to proclaim the gospel in a compelling and attractive way over eight weeks in a small group format. This experience is imbued with beauty, authentic humanity, and accompaniment.
